If you have a car that isn’t registered, perhaps one that’s been sitting on your property, you might need temporary registration. You must drive the vehicle to an inspection. Depending on what state you live in, that process can take some time. ![]() Regardless of where you bought it, you’ll most likely need a temporary license plate for your car until your registration is complete. While some of these reasons might not apply to your state, here is a generalized breakdown. There are a multitude of reasons why you would find yourself in need of a temporary tag. A valid temp tag is required to drive a vehicle for which you do not yet have license plates. Or domestic abuse situations, stalkers, manipulative employers.lotta reasons to a reasonable expectation of privacy.A temporary license plate proves that you own a vehicle for which you have applied for a full registration that has yet to arrive. Imagine accidentally cutting someone off, they fly into a rage and a week later you come home to them waiting for you? No thanks.
